Individuals from Austin Packers wrestling team compete at Section 1AAA meet

Individuals from the Austin Packers wrestling team were in action at the Section 1AAA individual meet at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester last Friday, and sophomore Sam Winkels continued a stellar season with a first-place finish at 220 pounds with an 8-7 decision over Ethan Peper of Rochester Mayo in the championship match.  Winkels will carry a record of 37-3 into the State Class AAA Individual Wrestling Tournament, as he is scheduled to take on Dominic Heim, a junior from Eden Prairie with a record of 25-4 in the first round Friday, March 3rd.

Also placing for Austin Friday was Yon Bol, who took fifth at 120 pounds, William Mullenbach earned a sixth place finish at 126 pounds, Lincoln Cole pinned Isaac Feenstra of Rochester John Marshall at 4:35 to claim fifth place at 132 pounds, Thomas Mareel took seventh for the Packers at 145 pounds, Antonio Garcia pinned Owen Allred of Winona/Winona Cotter at 3:47 to claim fifth place for Austin at 152 pounds, Ryan Clark was seventh at 160 pounds, senior Sam Oelfke claimed fourth place for the Packers at 170 pounds, Sean Josephs was fifth for Austin at 195 pounds, and Tucker James finished seventh for Austin at heavyweight.

Rochester Mayo will represent Section 1AAA in the team portion of the tournament, as the unseeded Spartans will take on No. 2 seed Waconia at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 2nd.
