Human remains found in Forestville State Park determined to be those of missing LeRoy man

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office has reported that human remains found on September 19th in or near Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park in Fillmore County have been positively identified as those of 35-year old Steven John Holm of LeRoy.

Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik stated that the Southeast Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the identity Tuesday evening.

Holm was reported missing on August 7th. He was last seen by a girlfriend/ex-girlfriend on July 30 in Mankato, and a family member received a text message from Holm on the same day. A vehicle registered to Holm was found on or about August 2nd at the Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park.

A private search party discovered Holm’s remains in a remote area of the park on September 19th.  The remains were in a skeletonized state, making identification inconclusive at the time.

Sandvik went on to report that there was no indication of foul play at the scene. An autopsy is now being conducted to determine the cause of death.
