Extra police security was provided today at Ellis Middle School in Austin after the school and law enforcement became aware of what was termed a non-specific threat involving a firearm over the weekend.

Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that the school notified parents through an e-mail Sunday about the threat and about the safety procedures the school was taking to handle the situation.  McKichan also stated the threat was discovered via social media and that a firearm was mentioned. School officials in the e-mail reported that students would be required to enter the building through a single door Monday and added that all bags would be checked.

They went on to state that classes would proceed as normal with increased supervision throughout the day.
