Eight Mayo Clinic hospitals, including the campuses in Austin and Albert Lea scored high marks for safety recently earning an “A” for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, an independent, national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits.  KAUS News spoke with Dr. Sumit Bhagra, Medical Director for Mayo Clinic Health System, Austin and Albert Lea who talked about what factors lead to Mayo being graded so highly…

Dr. Bhagra praised the employees of the two campuses for earning the accolades by doing the best work possible every day despite a lot of recent changes and uncertainty…

Other Mayo Clinic hospitals that received an “A” grade included Mayo Clinic Health System campuses in Mankato, Red Wing,  Eau Claire and LaCrosse, Wisconsin, the main Mayo Clinic Health System campus in downtown Rochester, and Mayo Clinic Hospitals in Arizona and Florida.  

The Hospital Safety Score is updated and published twice per year. This score is based on 17 measures of publicly available hospital safety data, combined with 11 additional self-reported survey answers, to produce a single patient safety score. A panel of safety experts developed these measures.
