A semi driver from Charles City, Iowa suffered non-life threatening injuries when his vehicle went off the road on I-90 east of Austin early this morning.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2020 Kenworth semi pulling a livestock trailer full of pigs and being driven by 52-year old David Lee Hoover of Charles City was eastbound on I-90 at approximately 3:08 a.m. this morning when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail and a bridge at Exit 187 near Elkton.  The semi came to rest underneath the 630th Avenue bridge and started on fire.

Hoover was transported to Mayo Clinic/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries. There was no word as to how many pigs were in the trailer, or how many were lost in the accident.  The State Patrol reported that road conditions were wet at the time of the accident, and added that it was unknown if Hoover was wearing his seatbelt.

At last word, eastbound I-90 from Exit 187, or Mower County Road 20 one mile west of the Elkton area to Exit 189 to Mower County Road 13 near Elkton was still closed due to the accident.
