Area corn and soybean harvest continues

In a report from the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, farmers in Southeastern Minnesota, along with others around the state harvested took full advantage of good weather to harvest over one-third of the state’s soybean acreage last week.  KAUS News spoke with Josh Schofner, a field agronomist with DuPont/Pioneer in Zumbrota who stated that farmers around southeastern Minnesota are well into the soybean harvest, and some have made the transition to corn…... Austin School Board approves new mission statement for district

The Austin School Board, following the recommendation of the School Board Communication Committee, approved a new mission statement, “Engaging, Empowering and Inspiring” at a recent meeting.  KAUS News spoke with Austin Schools Superintendent David Krenz, who stated that the district has had a mission statement for some time, and that the committee thought it was good time to change the statement to better serve the needs of students in the district and the community as a whole….... Leukemia breakthrough provides a new therapeutic strategy

The results of a study led by Dr. Shujun Liu, head of the Cancer Epigenetics and Experimental Therapeutics section at The Hormel Institute, were published in Leukemia this week. Dr. Liu’s study shows that fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4) and DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) work together in a loop that is critical for regulating the aggressiveness of leukemia cells. Pharmaceutical drugs can disrupt this loop and impair leukemia growth by resetting the aberrant epigenetics in leukemia cells. The article, “A vicious loop of fatty acid-binding protein 4 and DNA methyltransferase 1 promotes acute myeloid leukemia and acts as a therapeutic target” was a collaboration with other researchers from University of Louisville and Mayo Clinic, including Drs. Fei Yan, Na Shen, Jiuxia Pang, Na Zhao, Youwen Zhang, Ann M Bode, Aref Al-Kali, Mark R Litzow and Bing Li.... Read more

Major work finished on 11th Drive Northeast bridge in Austin

Austin City Council approves schematic design for community recreation center
