With less than a second left to go in overtime, Jed Pietila scored his second goal of the night to push the Austin Bruins to victory over the Aberdeen Wings, 3-2.  T.J. Chillot had the recap from Aberdeen….

The scoring got started early Saturday night, a little over three minutes into the game when Pietila slid one past Wings’ netminder Henry Welsch. Later in the period, Austin added to their lead when Ben Almquist hit the back of the net off a feed from Hugh Larkin.

In the second, the Wings made things interesting scoring late in the period to cut the lead in half, 2-1. In the third, Hugh Larkin was called for boarding and set Aberdeen up on the powerplay. The second-year Bruin wasn’t in the box long before the Wings punched one in behind Bruins netminder Tyler Shea, tying the game at two goals apiece.

Shea stood on his head to keep things tied and force overtime. It was in that extra period when the Bruins, and Jed Pietila, sealed the game. Dante Sheriff picked off a breakout pass at the Bruins offensive blue-line and found his defenseman cutting to the front of the net. Sheriff’s pass hit Pietila in the tape who then lofted the puck top-shelf and won the game for the Bruins with only 0.6 seconds left on the clock.

The Bruins and Wings will renew their rivalry with two games at Riverside Arena this coming weekend.
