BREAKING- Hog confinement building fire near Adams prompts evacuation of nearby residents

Four area fire departments and other emergency personnel responded to a hog confinement building fire near Adams this afternoon that prompted the evacuation of nearby residents.  

The Mower County 9-1-1 dispatch center received a call at 3:37 p.m. Tuesday afternoon regarding a hog confinement building fire near the city of Adams in the 70000 block of 110th St.  The reporting party stated to authorities that the building had received a chemical treatment earlier in the day, indicating a possible chemical release.  Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik reported that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and fire departments from Adams, LeRoy, Rose Creek and Stacyville, Iowa responded to the call.  Sheriff Sandvik stated that deputies went door to door to evacuate residents within the affected area, and he added that no injuries to humans or animals were reported at last word.  

Sandvik went on to state that there is no longer a concern for the safety of the residents in the surrounding area, and the evacuated residents were cleared to return.  Fire crews were still on scene at last word to extinguish the fire, and Sheriff Sandvik stated that residents are returning home, and people are being asked to not travel in the area of the fire while fire crews complete their work.
