Blooming Prairie softball falls to Chatfield 16-8 Saturday to cap off busy week

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team capped off an extremely busy week Saturday as they traveled to Chatfield to take on the Gophers, the No. 4 team in the state in the last Class AA poll for their fifth game in six days, and it was the Gophers scoring at least once in every inning, including five runs in the 4th inning on their way to a 16-8 win.

The Blossoms jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a half-inning of play, but Chatfield came back to take a 5-2 lead with two in the bottom of the 1st, one in the 2nd and two in the 3rd.  BP cut the lead to 5-3 with a run in the top of the 4th, but the Gophers then pulled away with five in the bottom half of the inning, plus three in the fifth and three in the sixth on their way to the win.  Offensively for the Blossoms, Bobbie Bruns led the way by going 1 for 2 with two RBI’s and two runs scored, Lauren Schammel was 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored, Lily Schammel went 1 for 3 with a run knocked in, Lexi Steckelberg was 1 for 4 with a RBI and a run scored and leadoff hitter Macy Lembke went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

With the loss, Blooming Prairie falls to 10-6 overall on the season, and the Blossoms are now off until Tuesday when they will wrap up a four-game road swing at Cannon Falls, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.
