Blooming Prairie cross-country teams compete at Chatfield Invitational

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms cross-country teams were in action at the eight-team Chatfield Invitational Tuesday, and in the girls’ competition, the Blossoms took 5th place with a team total of 120 points.  The host Gophers were first with 35 points, followed by Goodhue with 61 points, RAACHE with 66 team points, Stewartville was fourth with 88 points followed by the Blossoms, Schaeffer Academy, Wabasha/Kellogg and Cannon Falls.

Head Coach Jon Bruns stated that 7th grader Gloria Hernandez was in the lead pack all race for the Blossoms and led at several times, and eventually wound up second in a very competitive field with a time of 21:54. Chloe McCarthy was 25th for Blooming Prairie with a time of 24:46, Emily Anderson was 38th with a time of 27:13, teammate Abby Smith was right behind in 39th with a time of 28:01 and Asha Lighthizer took 40th for the Blossoms with a time of 29:17.

In the boys competition, Blooming Prairie took eighth place with a total of 153 team points.  RAACHE was first with 52 points, edging out Stewartville who took second with 56 points.  Then came host Chatfield in third with 96 points, Cannon Falls was fourth with 121 points, Goodhue took fifth with 133 team points, followed by Schaeffer Academy in sixth with 138 points, then came Wabasha/Kellogg with 150 points followed by Blooming Prairie.

Junior Hosea Baker ran the best time for BP Tuesday as he took 11th with a time of 19:15, Jesse Cardenas was 23rd with a time of 20:20, Tyler Forstek took 34th for the Blossoms with a time of 20:50 and Jackson Harberts was 41st with a final time of 21:33.

The Blossoms will return to action at an invitational hosted by United South Central on October 12th.
