Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team doubles up Maple River 8-4 in regular-seaon finale

The Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms softball team traveled to Maple River for a Gopher Conference matchup with the Eagles for their regular-season finale Friday, and in a game that had been postponed from May 13th because of rain, second baseman Rachel Winzenburg drove in four runs, and the Blossoms jumped out to an 8-0 lead on their way to an 8-4 win.

Blooming Prairie tallied one run in the first inning, three in the second, one in the foruth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to lead 8-0 before Maple River answered with one in the bottom of the sixth and three in the seventh for the 8-4 final.  Offensively for the Blossoms, Rachel Winzenburg went 1 for 3 with four runs knocked in, leadoff hitter Macy Lembke was 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and a run scored, Shawntee Snyder went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, Lexi Steckelberg was 1 for 4, sophomore left fielder Ella Smith went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, pitcher Haven Carlson added a hit in two trips to the plate, and Anna Haberman scored a pair of runs in the win.

Carlson was strong in the circle for the Blossoms Friday as she pitched all seven innings and gave up the four Eagle runs, two earned, on only three hits, striking out seven and walking four to earn the win.

With the win, Blooming Prairie wraps up the regular season on a three-game winning streak and an 11-8 record overall, and the Blossoms will be back in action in the quarterfinals of the Section 1AA west softball tournament Monday, versus an opponent and site yet to be determined.
