Authorities trying to determine the cause of a fire at the Roadway Inn of Austin Friday evening

Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine the cause of a fire that broke out at the Roadway Inn of Austin early Friday evening.

Fire Chief Jim McCoy stated in a report that the department was called to the hotel at approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday evening concerning reports of smoke and fire coming from the electrical room.  Crews arrived to find smoke and fire showing from the hotel, and Chief McCoy stated that they were able to contain the fire to the utility room and an adjacent hotel room.  Fire Departments from Brownsdale and Mapleview were called in to assist, and McCoy stated that Austin Police worked to evacuate the hotel as crews worked to extinguish the fire.  

No injuries were reported, and Mower County Emergency Management was on scene working to coordinate housing for those staying at the hotel.  Chief McCoy stated that the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
