Authorities have identified the four people who were killed in a one-vehicle accident in southwest Austin early Thursday evening.
The Austin Police and Fire Departments responded to the single vehicle accident at 6:02 p.m. Thursday evening on 2nd Drive Southwest near 11th Avenue Southwest. Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that based on the investigation, authorities believe the vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx had been traveling eastbound on 11th Avenue Southwest when it left the roadway, went through a grove of trees and struck some before it went down an embankment and came to rest on 2nd Drive Southwest.
The vehicle was engulfed in flames when officers arrived on the scene. Investigators were later able to determine that through follow-ups and interviews, they believe the vehicle was occupied by 28-year old Lance Tyler Eastman, 25-year old Kala Marie Klaus and their two young children, all from Austin.
Chief McKichan went on to report that the authorities believe a dog was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, and that dog was located the next day and returned to the family of the victims. McKichan stated that all other aspects of the accident remain open and under investigation.
