Individuals for the Austin Packers girls’s swimming and diving team were in action at the Rochester Rec Center Friday for Day 2 of the Section 1A meet, and congratulations to junior Olivia Walsh, who will be competing in two different events at the state meet for the first time ever coming up this weekend at the University of Minnesota.
Walsh qualified in the 50 freestyle, as she took second to Tri-City United 8th grader Ella Schmeising with a time of 24.73, and she also qualified in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.99, which was good for third place.
Several other members of the squad were in action Friday in Rochester, including the 200 medley relay team of Madelynn Murley, Kaylee Butts, Ingrid Dolan Peterson and Mackenzie Carter, who took seventh with a tim eof 2:03.70, Murley finished seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.61 and Sydney Tobak took 15th in the 200 individual medley for the Packers with a time of 2:32.07.
Besides Walsh taking second in the 50 freestyle, teammate Alivia Hemry was 14th with a time of 27.01, Alayna Kennedy finished sixth in 1-meter diving Thursday with a total score of 292.10, Reese Norton was seventh for Austin with a total of 284.70 and Rachel Elgelstad was 10th with a total of 271.70. Tobak took 16th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.50, Gracie Greenman was 12th for Austin in 500 freestyle with a time of 5:54.45 and the 200 freestyle relay team of Walsh, Alivia Hemry, Abbie Boysen and Mackenzie Carter took sixth with a final time of 1:45.59.
Madelynn Murley was seventh for the Packers in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.39 and Addison Walsh finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke with a tim eof 1:17.33, while teammate Kaylee Butts was 15th with a time of 1:18.64.
Walsh will be in the third of three preliminary heats in the 50 freestyle Thursday at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota, and she will also be in the third of three preliminary heats in the 100 freestyle Thursday.
