Austin woman dead, juvenile female seriously injured after being struck by vehicle Saturday evening
An Austin woman is dead, and a juvenile female was seriously injured when they were struck by a vehicle Saturday evening on County Rd 46 on the eastern edge of Austin.
The Austin Police Department, Deputies from the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Austin Fire Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance all responded at approximately 7:40 p.m. Saturday evening to a report of a vehicle striking two individuals on County Rd 46, or 220th St. east of 28th St NE in Austin. Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik reported that one adult female and one juvenile female were observed laying in the roadway upon first responders arrival. The vehicle that struck them, a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was sitting in the North ditch of CR 46. The adult male driver of the Tahoe was not injured in the crash.
The two females were transported to Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Austin with serious life threatening injuries by Mayo Ambulance. The adult female, 24-year old Mikayla Ann Sherman of Austin was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, and Sheriff Sandvik stated that there was no condition update at last word for the juvenile female.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
