The Austin VFW Post #1216 baseball team was looking to extend its winning streak to four Tuesday evening in a District 1 matchup with Owatonna, and it was the hosts pushing across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 4-3.
Austin jumped out to a 2-0 lead after a half-inning, but Owatonna came right back and tied the game at two until Post #1216 edged back in front 3-2 with a run in the top of the second. Austin held the slim lead until Owatonna tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and they tallied the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Offensively, Austin belted out nine hits in the game, and they were led by Dakota Retterath, who went 3 for 4 with three singles. Peyton Ransom was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI’s, leadoff hitter Landon Meyer went 1 for 4 with a RBI for Post #1216, Ethan Anderson was 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and Cooper Napton went 1 for 4 with a double, Austin’s only extra base hit in the game.
