Austin VFW baseball team blanks Red Wing, falls to Northfield in action this week

The Austin VFW Post #1216 baseball team were back in action in a pair of road games this week, first Monday evening at Red Wing and Wednesday evening at Northfield, and on Monday evening, pitcher Blake Cummings struck out 13 Red Wing batters to help Austin to a 4-0 win, but on Wednesday evening, Northfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and never looked back from there on their way to a 10-0, 6-inning win.

Offensviely for Post #1216 in Monday night’s game, Peyton Ransom went 2 for 4 with a RBI, Sam Oelfke was also 2 for 4 with a double, Landon Meyer also doubled in four official trips to the plate, Dane Schara, Isaac Nelson and Sam Howard also collected hits for Austin and Cooper Napton went 1 for 3 with a RBI as Post #1216 held a slim 1-0 lead until tallying three runs in the top of the 7th for insurance.

Blake Cummings did the rest on the mound for Austin as he pitched a complete game and gave up no runs on six hits, fanning 13 batters and walking only two for the win.

Against Northfield Wednesday evening, Austin trailed 4-0 after one innings, and the home club added one run in the fourth, three more in the fifth and two in the sixth on their way to the win.  Northfield outhit Austin 9-1 in the game, with Ethan Anderson picking up the lone hit for Post #1216 in the contest as he was 1 for 2 with a double.

Austin is now 3-2 on the season thus far.
