Austin Utilities has been named one of the Best Places to Work in southeast Minnesota in 2020 in a commissioned study by Workforce Development Inc.

According to a press release, the purpose of the program is to recognize some of the best employers in the area and provide information to companies about the practices they use to attract and retain employees.

Austin Utilities was one of 12 employers to be recognized representing Mower, Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Olmsted, Rice, Steele and Wabasha counties.

The employers were split into three different groups, small, mid-sized and large.  Austin Utilities was one of the winners in the mid-sized category along with the Cooperative Response Center in Austin and the City of Albert Lea.  Citizens State Bank of Hayfield was named to the list from the small employer category and Mower County was named to the list from the large employer category.

Each employer participating was required to complete a 40-question survey that allowed their employment practices to be analyzed by the consulting firm of Personnel Dynamics Consulting of Florida.

Some of the data measured were turnover, rate of growth, promotion rates, employee evaluations and feedback, percentage of employee injured, diversity of management, benefits offered, training expenditures, paid days off and increase in pay.

Every employer participating in the survey will receive a detailed 20-page report detailing the information on their company and the results of the survey.

This is the 10th year Workforce Development Inc. has brought the Best Places to Work program to southeast Minnesota.
