Austin teen injured in two-vehicle accident on Interstate 35 in Scott County Monday evening

A teen from Austin was injured after a two-vehicle accident on southbound I-35 in Scott County Monday evening.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2016 Volvo semi being driven by 39-year old Noah Aaron Peters of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and a 2015 Honda Civic being driven by a 17-year old female who was not named were both southbound on I-35 in New Market Township of Scott County at approximately 9:44 p.m. Monday evening when the two vehicles collided.  The State Patrol reported that the Civic went into the right ditch and rolled near milepost 74.

Both the 17-year old female driver of the Civic and a passenger in the vehicle, a 17-year old male from Austin were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, with the 17-year old male from Austin suffering non-life threatening injuries.  Peters was uninjured.

The State Patrol indicated that it was unknown if the two occupants of the Civic were wearing their seatbelts, and they added that Peters was wearing his at the time of the accident.  The State Patrol reported that alcohol was not a factor in the accident, and the Rice County Sheriff’s Office and North Ambulance assisted the State Patrol at the accident scene Monday evening.
