Austin Schools urging families that still qualify for free and reduced priced meals to fill out an application

Classes are back in session for Austin Schools for the 2021-2022 school year, and COVID-19 protocols are still in place throughout the district, including how school lunches are served to students.  KAUS spoke with Mary Weikum, Director of Food and Nutrition Services for the Austin School District who talked about how lunches are served daily, and she also went on to praise the work of food service staff in the district for the last year and a half during the pandemic…

Weikum stated that even though all meals in the district are free again this year, she stressed that it is still critically important for families that still qualify for free and reduced priced meals to fill out an application….

Weikum went on to state that applications are available at every site in the district, and she added that there is also an online version of the application under the Food and Nutrition portion of the Austin Public Schools website.  A paper application is also available online, and applications can also be filled out at the high school office to be submitted and processed.
