Austin School Board holds organizational meeting for 2021

The School Board for Independent School District #492 Austin held their organizational meeting for 2021 Monday afternoon at the District Office Conference Room at Austin High School, and in a first item of business, Cece Kroc, Evan Sorenson and Don Leathers all took their oaths of office in starting four-year terms. Kroc and Sorenson are both first-time board members, while Leathers will be serving his third term on the board, having first been elected back in 2012. Katie Ulwelling, who was elected on November 3rd to serve the remaining two years of Don Fox’s term, took her oath of office immediately after the election.
In other business, Kathy Green was elected Chairperson of the Austin School Board for 2021 while Peggy Young was elected Vice-Chairperson, Angie Goetz will again serve as Clerk and Don Leathers will serve as the board’s Treasurer in 2021. The board also approved a resolution authorizing Superintendent David Krenz and Executive Director of Finance and Operations Lori Volz to lease purchase and contract for goods and services for the district in 2021, and they also approved bank depositories for the district for the coming year.
The Austin School Board also moved to keep their compensation the same in 2021 after discussing the issue at previous meetings, and they also approved a resolution authorizing school business to be conducted on Columbus Day. The board also established the same meeting dates for 2021, with their regularly scheduled meetings to be held on the second Monday of each month, and their study sessions on the fourth Monday of each month.
