Austin Police, State Fire Marshal investigating vehicle fire deemed suspicious in nature
The Austin Police Department and State Fire Marshal are investigating a vehicle fire that occurred early Friday morning that is being deemed suspicious in nature.
Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon reported that officers responded to a vehicle fire call at approximately 5:15 a.m. Friday morning in the 200 block of 4th Street Southeast.
Upon arrival, officers witnessed a black GMC Sierra pickup truck with Minnesota license plate DVY392 fully engulfed in flames, and with the passenger side door open. The Austin Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the blaze.
Clennon stated that officers searched the area for the registered owner, but were unable to locate them.
Officers were informed by multiple neighbors that they called upon waking up and finding the vehicle on fire. Captain Clennon stated that no one gave a statement as to how the vehicle started on fire, indicating that the truck was completely engulfed in flames upon being discovered.
Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy contacted the State Fire Marshal who, in conjunction with the Austin Police Department will be conducting an investigation into the incident.
