Austin Police investigate dispute in southeast Austin Friday morning

Austin Police are investigating after a suspect was taken into custody following a standoff with authorities at a southeast Austin apartment complex Friday morning.

The Austin Police Department investigated a dispute in southeast Austin starting at approximately 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.  Chief of Police Dave McKichan reported that the investigation led to an apartment in the 400 block of 3rd Avenue SE.  As officers suspected a firearm may have been involved, McKichan stated that an abundance of caution was used in approaching the scene and later searching it.  A suspect was eventually taken into custody, and there were no reports of any injuries.

Chief McKichan went on to report that they do not believe this to have been a random event, and he added that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The case remains under investigation.
