Austin Packers to open against St. Cloud Tech in State Class A boys’ soccer quarterfinals
The Austin Packers boys’ soccer team will be opening the 2019 Minnesota State Class A boys’ soccer tournament quarterfinals against the St. Cloud Tech Tigers.
The 14-2-2 Packers are making their third straight trip to the state tournament and their fourth overall in school history. The Packers have taken third the last two years at state. The Tigers sport an identical 14-2-2 record, and are the champions of Section 8A. St. Cloud Tech has three players who have topped 20 points this season, including senior attacker Keyse Elmi, who has 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points, sophomore attacker Ethan Miller, who has 17 goals and 9 assists for 26 points and junior attacker Zak Mohamud, who tallied 7 goals and 12 assists for 20 points. Both teams are more than capable of putting the ball in the back of the net, as Austin is averaging 4.6 goals per match while St. Cloud Tech averages 4.2 The Packers scored 22 goals in their three Section 1A wins over St. Charles, Byron and Rochester Lourdes.

The winner of the match advances to play at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis on Monday, October 28th at 4:00 p.m. against either top-seeded Academy of Holy Angels or unseeded St. Croix Prepatory Academy. The other half of the Class A bracket features No. 2 seed Blake School taking on St. Francis at St. Cloud St. University on Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 p.m. and No. 3 seeded Orono against unseeded Mankato West at Farmington High School Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the other two quarterfinal matches will play at U.S. Bank Stadium at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28th, with the semi-final winners meeting for the Class A title on Halloween Thursday, October 31st back at U.S. Bank Stadium at 12:30 p.m., while the losers of the semi-final matches will play for third place on Tuesday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium.
