Austin Packers softball falls to Faribault in slugfest 18-10

The Austin Packers softball team entertained Big 9 Conference rival Faribault in the friendly confines of the Packerdome Tuesday afternoon, and it was Faribault jumping out to a big lead early on and holding off a Packers rally to win 18-10.

Faribault tallied four runs in the top of the 1st and three more in the 2nd to lead 7-0, but Austin rallied back with five runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd to make it a ballgame at 7-5.  The Falcons scored two in the top of the 3rd to take a 9-5 lead, but the Packers crept as close as 9-8 with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Faribault, though, had the answer as they notched a single run in the top of the 4th and broke the game open with a six-run top of the 6th on their way to the win.

Junior Lucy Lagervall led Austin offensivley by going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple. She racked up two RBI’s and three runs scored.   Isabel Stark was also 2 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, Kate Holtz was 1 for 4 with an RBI, Madisyn Busker went 1 for 3 for the Packers, scored three runs and stole a base and Naveah Borg added a hit in three trips to the plate for Austin, who starts the season 0-3, and they return to action on Saturday at home for a Big 9 doubleheader with Red Wing, with first pitch for the first game at noon.
