Austin Packers girls volleyball team competes at Rochester Century Invitational Saturday
The Austin Packers girls’ volleyball team traveled to the National Volleyball Center at Rochester Century High School Saturday for the Rochester Century Invitational, and in pool play, the Packers were swept in their first match of the day versus Chatfield 25-23, 25-23 and 25-18.  Things got no easier for Austin in their second match of the day as they took on the Byron Bears, the No. 4 team in the state in the latest Class AAA rankings and fell 25-16, 25-9 and 25-13, but the Packers were able to rebound and win their third match of the day in a sweep over the Waseca Bluejays 25-23, 26-24.  The win put Austin amongst the final four teams in the tournament, and the Packers wound up action for the day against the host Century Panthers, a strong squad from the Big 9 Conference who swept the Packers 25-9, 25-11.
Austin is 2-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Big 9 Conference, and the Packers will face off against Worthington in their home opener at Packer Gym this evening (Tuesday) at 7:15 p.m.
