Austin Packers girls’ track and field third at Rocheter John Marshall Quadrangular Tuesday

The Austin Packers girls’ track and field team was on the road at Rochester John Marshall Tuesday for a Big 9 Conference quadrangular with the host Rockets, Mankato West and Red Wing, and in a meet that saw a rain and hail delay until 5:25 p.m., the Packers took third with 67 team points.  Mankato West took first with 89 points, followed by Red Wing with 75, Austin with the 67 points and the host Rockets were third with 35 points.

High finishers for Austin included Sara Wangen, who was second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.86, Agony Kwot was second in the 400 meter dash for the Packers with a time of 1:09.15, Cassidy Shute and Lauren Schmidt went 2-3 for Austin in the 800 meter run with times of 2:42.89 and 2:48.81, respectivley, and Nadia Vaughn was second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:12.44.

Marissa Shute was second for the Packers in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:12.63 seconds, Molly Berglund was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a final time of 19.49, and teammate Briella Wempner was fourth with a time of 20.57.  Austin’s 4 x 100 relay team was third Tuesday with a time of 56.70 seconds, their 4 x 400 relay team was also third with a final time of 4:43.37 and their 4 x 800 relay team finished first with a time of 11:00.55, which was 34 seconds better than their best previous finish this season.

Ali Portz was fourth for the Packers in the shot put with an effort of 28′ 7.5″, Mya Walters was third for Austin in the discus with a throw of 84′ 5″, Olivia Walsh cleared 4′ 10″ for first in the high jump, and teammate Toria Strampe cleared 4′ 6″, which was good for fourth place.  Sara Wangen took third in the long jump with a jump of 14′ 6.5″ and Olivia Walsh also took first in the triple jump with an effort of 33″ 1″, and Toria Strampe was fourth with a jump of 30′ 3″.

Austin will return to action in a five-team meet on Thursday at Mankato East against the host Cougars, Faribault, New Ulm and Waseca, with the action set to start at 6:15 p.m.
