Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team diver brings home state title Saturday

Three individuals from the Austin Packers girls swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the State Class A Individual Meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota Saturday, and one of them brought a state title back to Austin.

Junior Alayna Kennedy, who excelled all sesaon long in 1-meter diving capped off a fantastic season Saturday by taking the title in the event with a final score of 432.45, just ahead of freshman Bailey Monette of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, who was second with a total of 430.40.  Packer junior Reese Norton also capped off a stellar season Saturday by taking sixth in the event with a total of 350.00.

Freshman Gracie Greenman also competed at the State Meet for the Packers in the 100 backstroke, and Greenman earned a spot in the finals by swimming a time of 59.50 seconds in the prelminiaries on Friday.    Greenman then finished sixth in the finals Saturday with a time of 59.28 seconds.

Visitation was the runaway winner in the Class A team competition with 253 points, with Orono a distant second with 186 points, and Monticello finished third with 176 points.
