Austin Packers girls’ swimming and diving team competes in Section 1A Preliminaries

The Austin Packers girls’ swimming and diving team traveled to the Rochester Rec Center Wednesday for the Section 1A preliminaries, and the Packers sent several swimmers to the diving finals Thursday night and the swimming finals today.

Austin’s 200 medley relay team of senior Madelynn Murley, freshman Kaylee Butts, senior Ingrid Dolan Peterson and senior Mackenzie Carter took seventh to advance with a time of 2:02.07, Murley advanced in the 200 freestyle as she took ninth with a time of 2:06.70, Sydney Tobak will swim in the 200 individual medley finals Friday as the freshman took 14th with a time of 2:32.80 and junior Olivia Walsh and 8th grader Alivia Hemry advanced in the 50 freestyle as Walsh was third for Austin with a time of 24.86 and Hemry was 16th with a time of 26.83.

Sydney Tobak advanced for Austin in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:11.39, good for 16th place, Olivia Walsh was fourth in the 100 freestyle to advance to Friday with a time of 54.36, 7th grader Gracie Greenman will swim in the 500 freestyle finals Friday as she took 11th with a time of 5:52.14 and the Packers’ 200 freestyle relay team of Olivia Walsh, Alivia Hemry, Abbie Boysen and Mackenzie Carter took sixth to advance with a time of 1:47.05.

Madelynn Murley moved into the finals in the 100 backstroke as she was 7th with a time of 1:06.10, Addison Walsh and Kaylee Butts both advanced in the 100 breaststroke as they were 13th and 14th, respectivley, with times of 1:18.02 and 1:18.70 and Austin’s 400 freestyle relay team of Madelynn Murley, Alivia Hemry, Anna Kossman and Olivia Walsh advanced with a time of 3:52.17, good for fifth place.

The Section 1A girls’ swimming and diving finals are being held today back at the Rochester Rec Center, with the State Class A Swimming and Diving meet to be held November 18th-20th at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.
