Austin Packers girls soccer team falls to Owatonna 6-0 Thursday evening

After their first road match of the season in Albert Lea Tuesday, the Austin Packers girls soccer team was back at Art Hass Stadium Thursday night for a Big 9 Conference matchup with Owatonna. The Huskies came into the match having shut out their first two conference opponents, Mankato West and Red Wing, and in a match you heard on AM 1480 KAUS, that trend continued Thursday evening as junior forward Kennedy Schammel tallied a natural hat trick, and goalkeepers Anna Mollenhauer and Paige Pick combined to make three saves as the Huskies blanked the Packers 6-0.
Schammel scored in the 27th, 29th and 46th minutes, and Averi Vetsch, Abigail Shornock and Norah Cederstrom all added goals as well as the Huskies kept Austin sophomore goalkeeper Felicia Thimmesch busy with 19 shots on goal.
With the loss, the Packers are now 0-5 overall on the season, and 0-3 in the Big 9 Conference. Austin returns to action Saturday afternoon at Art Hass Stadium versus Stewartville in a non-conference matchup, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
