Austin Packers girls soccer falls to Red Wing 1-0 Thursday evening
In a match you heard on AM 1480 KAUS Thursday evening, the Austin Packers girls soccer team played host to Big 9 Conference and Section 1AA rival Red Wing at Art Hass Stadium, and a goal for junior midfielder/forward Mariana Martin, her third of the season in the 44th minute proved to be the difference in a 1-0 Red Wing win.
Austin’s best scoring chance of the second half came in the 65th minute when leading scorer Marie Tolbert was able to fine some open space just inside the penalty area, but her right-footed strike straight away from 16 yards clanged off the crossbar, leaving the score at 1-0.
With the loss, the Packers are now 1-8-1 overall, and 0-6-1 in the Big 9 Conference. Austin returns to action next Tuesday in Northfield versus the Raiders in another Big 9 Conference matchup, with kickoff at 7 p.m. that evening.
