The Austin Packers girls’ hockey team was looking to snap a two-game losing streak at Riverside Arena Tuesday night versus the Waseca Bluejays, and Kate Holtz exploded for four goals and five assists while Jordyn McCormack put up four goals and four assists as the Packers scored seven first period goals on their way to a 13-5 rout.

Lexi Stich and Mikiah Ramsey each scored two goals while A.J. Berrera added a goal and an assist for the Packers, who were 2 for 2 on the power play and after the seven goal blitzkrieg in the first period, they added two more goals in the second period and four in the third.

With their top two netminders still battling injuries, the Packers turned to Sara Wangen to play goalie Tuesday night and she stepped up big time, turning away 31 of the 36 shots she faced in her first-ever game between the pipes.

The Packers are now 3-5 on the season, and they are back on home ice Thursday night against Rochester Century in the Big 9 Conference.  Face-off is at 7:15 p.m.
