Austin Packers girls’ hockey team blanked by Northfield Saturday 8-0

The Austin Packers girls’ hockey team was on the road Saturday at the Northfield Ice Arena to take on the first-place Raiders in a Big 9 Conference matchup, and a four goal first period helped to key an 8-0 Northfield win.

Freshman Ayla Puppe, the leading scorer for the Raiders tallied three goals for a hat trick, and Ava Stanchina tallied two goals to help keep Northfield unbeaten on the season at 13-0.  The Raiders peppered Austin netminder Shelby Davidson with 62 shots, and Davidson made a total of 54 saves.  Northfield held Austin to only five shots on goal, and Raider goaltender Maggie Malecha turned aside all five shots for the shutout win.

With the loss, Austin falls to 6-8-1 on the season, and things get no easier for the Packers as the second-place Owatonna Huskies pay a visit this evening to Riverside Arena.  You’ll hear the game live on AM 1480 KAUS, with the Austin Packers pre-game show getting underway at 7:05 p.m., and face-off at 7:15 p.m.  You can also tune in on our webpage at www.myaustinminnesota.com, and on the I Heart Radio app.
