Austin Packers girls’ hockey rolls by Waseca 10-1 in Section 1A quarterfinals Tuesday evening

The number three-seeded Austin Packers girls’ hockey team entertained No. 6 seed Waseca in the Section 1A quarterfinals at Riverside Arena Tuesday evening, and Alyssa Squire and Isikiyah Hemann each scored two goals apiece as the Packers jumped out to a 4-0 lead on their way to a 10-1 win.

Samantha Krueger, Kate Holtz, Allie Davidson and Squire all scored in the first period to give Austin a lead they would not relinquish, and Hemann and Squire each tallied in the second frame to put the Packers ahead 6-1.  Cassidy Davidson, Brenna Haedt, Hemann and Mikiah Rumsey all scored in the third period for the 10-1 final, and Rumsey, Sarah Wangen and Camille Dunlap all tallied two assists apiece for Austin, and senior goaltender Shelby Davidson turned aside 23 of the 24 shots she faced for the win in net.

The Packers improve their record to 8-9-1 on the season with the win, and they will get no respite as they travel to Rochester to take on the Eagles of Rochester Lourdes/Dover Eyota at 7:00 p.m.  The winner of that game will take on either No. 1 seed Albert Lea or fourth-seeded Red Wing in the Section 1A championship game at the high seed Friday evening.
