The Austin Packers girls hockey team was on the road Saturday at the Rochester Rec Center to take on the John Marshall Rockets in the Big 9 Conference, and Kate Holtz’s even-strength goal at 13:31 of the third period  lifted the Packers past the Rockets for their first win of the young 2019-2020 season 3-2.

A.J. Barrera put Austin in front 1-0 in the first period with a goal at 13:30, with an assist to Mikiah Rumsey.  The Packers made it 2-0 in the second period with a goal by Jordyn McCormack, with assists to Alexis Stich and Holtz, but the Rockets rallied to tie the game at 2 with a goal by Ashley Koehler :54 seconds after McCormack’s goal, and another by Alyssa Kang at 8:59 of the third period.  Holtz’s marker at 13:31 of the third, with assists to McCormack and Stich would prove to be the game winner as goaltender Kyia Radford-Garcia stood tall between the pipes to earn the win.

The Packers are now 1-3 in the Big 9 and 1-3 overall.  Their next action will be Tuesday afternoon in Mankato at All Seasons Arena against the West Scarlets, with the face-off at 5:15 p.m.
