Austin Packers girls’ and boys’ soccer to start Section 1A playoffs this week

Both the Austin Packers girls’ and boys’ soccer teams are set to kick off Section 1A tournament action this week.

In the girls’ tournament, the Austin Packers garnered the 12th seed and will play at #5 seed Kasson/Mantorville in Kasson this (Monday) evening at 7 p.m.  If the Packers are victorius, they would travel to #4 seed Dover/Eyota or host #13 seed Winona Wednesday evening.  In other action in the top half of the 1A bracket, #1 seed Rochester Lourdes received a bye into the second round and will host either host #8 St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura or #9 Red Wing, who play tonight in St. Charles at 4:30 p.m.Wednesday afternoon.  In ther lower half of the bracket, Winona-Cotter is the #2 seed and will host #15 Schaeffer Academy in Winona tonight at 7 p.m., #7 Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa will host #10 Plainview/Elgin/Millville, three-seed Byron will entertain #14 Caledonia and number 6 seed Stewartville will host #11 seed Lake City at 7 p.m.  All of the winners will play at the high seed on Wednesday evening at a time yet to be determined.

The Section 1A girls’ soccer semi-finals will be played on Tuesday, October 20th at the high seed, and the section final will be played in St. Charles on Thursday, October 22nd at 7 p.m.

In the 1A boys field, congratulations to Big 9 Conference champion Austin, who will host #16 seed Winona-Cotter Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  You’ll hear the match right here on AM 1480 KAUS, with the Packers pre-game show set for 6:50 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m.  A win for Austin will pit them against either #8 seed Winona or #9 seed St. Charles/Lewiston-Altura in Austin Thursday.  In other action in the top half of the 1A boys soccer bracket this evening, #4 Rochester Lourdes will host #13 seed Caledonia, and #5 Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa will entertain #12 seed Kasson/Mantorville, with the highest remaining seeds hosting games Thursday.  In action in the lower half of the bracket, #2 seed Dover/Eyota will host #15 Red Wing, #10 seed Lake City is at #7 seed Cannon Falls, third-seeded Byron will host 14th seeded Schaeffer Academy and #6 seed Plainview will entertain #11 Stewartville, with the high seeds hosting quarterfinal games Thursday.

The Section 1A boys’ soccer semi-finals will be played on Monday, October 19th at the high seeds, and the section final will be hosted by St. Charles on Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m.
