The Austin Packers boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams played host to a triangular involving Owatonna and Red Wing Thursday at the Mower County Fairgrounds, and both squads earned a third-place finish.

In the girls competition, Owatonna took first place with 22 team points, followed by Red Wing with 48 points and Austin with 62.  Marissa Shute ran the best time for the Packers Thursday, as her final time of 20:13.7 earned her fourth place.  Teammate Nadia Vaughn was ninth with a time of 21:41.2, Cassidy Shute was 14th with a time of 22:16.6, and Grace Vortherms was 17th for the Packers with a time of 23:11.7.

In the boys competition, Owatonna again took first with 18 points, followed by Austin with 43 and Red Wing with 76.  Jackson Marsh earned a third-place finish for Austin with a time of 17:08, Thomas Herrick was seventh with a final time of 17:59.3, Joseph Garry was ninth with a time of 18:14.3, Kyle Mayer earned 11th place as he ran a time of 18:26.6, Thomas Asmus was 13th for the Packers with a final time of 18:37.1 and Alex Petrik was 16th with a time of 19:06.2.

Both squads are now off until September 24th, when they will travel to Mankato for a triangular hosted by the East Cougars.
