The Austin Packers boys tennis team opened the 2022 season Saturday in a triagular being hosted by Big 9 Conference rival Rochester John Marshall, and the Packers drew a tough first opponent in the personage of Rochester Mayo, who are seen by many as the team to beat in the conference, and it was the Spartans downing the Packers by the score of 7-0, with all of their wins coming in straight sets.
Austin then took on the host Rockets, who were victorious by the score of 6-1. Head Coach Jeff Anderson noted that Joey Schammel played a great match in picking up a win at No. 1 singles over Marko Jokic of John Marshall 7-6, 6-1 for Austin’s lone point of the match, as John Marshall took all of the other matches in straight sets.
