Austin Packers boys’ tennis team falls twice in Mankato Tuesday

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team was part of a Big 9 Conference triangular in Mankato against the East Cougars and the West Scarlets, and in their match versus West, the Scarlets were victorious by the score of 6-1.

Joey Schammel earned the only point of the match for the Packers at first singles as the downed Brian Lewis of West in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.  In their match versus the East Cougars, Austin fell by the score of 5-2.  Schammel again earned a point for the Packers at first singles as he blew by Quinn Kelly of the Cougars 6-1, 6-1, and also earning a point in the match for Austin was Cole Hebrink at second singles, as Hebrink outlasted Ethan Young of Mankato East in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 10-8.  The only other match that went to three sets was at third singles, where Austin’s Thomas Garry fell to Guillaume Bibbee of East 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

The Packers will play their home opener at the Wescott Sports Complex on Thursday at they are scheduled to host Northfield in another Big 9 Conference match, with the action scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
