Austin Packers boys’ tennis team downs Albert Lea 5-2 Tuesday

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team played host to I-90 rival Albert Lea at the Wescott Athletic Complex Tuesday in a Big 9 Conference match, and it was the Packers sweeping all four singles matches in straight sets on their way to a 5-2 win.

Joey Schammel was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Shine Thu of Albert Lea at No. 1 singles, Cole Hebrink swept Adam Semple of the Tigers in straight sets at No. 2 singles by the identical 6-1, 6-0 score, Thomas Garry blew past William Isaacson of Albert Lea at third singles 6-0, 6-0 and Owen Carroll of the Packers swept Jacob Luoma of the Tigers at fourth singles 6-2, 6-0.  Quinton Grimley and Nathan Danielson both earned their first varsity win in the match for the Packers at No. 2 doubles as they Cannon Kermes and Will Doppelhammer of Albert Lea in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

The Packers return to action at the Wescott Athletic Complex Thursday as they play host to Blue Earth in a non-conference matchup, with the action scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
