Austin Packers boys’ tennis falls to Red Wing 4-3

The Austin Packers boys’ tennis team played host to Red Wing in their home regular-season finale at the Wescott Athletic Complex Tuesday, and in a well-played match on both sides that could have gone either way, the Wingers were able to edge the Packers 4-3.

Picking up wins for Austin were Joey Schammel at No. 1 singles, as Schammel wound up his home career with the Packers with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Red Wing’s Josh Kolby.  Also earning wins were Cole Hebrink at No. 2 singles as he outdeuled Aidan Hull of the Wingers in three sets 6-7 (3), 6-2 and 10-5 in the third set tiebreaker and Owen Carroll was victorious at No. 4 singles for Austin over Red Wing’s Luke Farrar in three sets 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

Austin will wrap up the regular season Thursday with a non-conference match at Farmington at 4:30 p.m. before the Big 9 Conference meet at the Rochester Outdoor Tennis Center Saturday morning starting at 9:00 a.m.
