Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving victorious over Owatonna 96-84
The Austin Packers boys swimming and diving team traveled to Owatonna Tuesday evening for a Big 9 dual meet with the Huskies, and it was the Packers earning a 96-84 win on the road.
High finishers for Austin included the Packers going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, as the team of Winston Walkup, Jackson Barry, Joey Hilikin and Kenny Cabeen took first with a time of 1:49.23, while the team of Kyler Mayer, Lucas Meyers, Carter Holt and Doh Htoo were second with a final time of 2:08.75. Zach Evenson and Thomas Asmus of the Packers were second and third, respectively, in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:08.65 and 2:16.83, and Walkup and Hillikin were second and third in the 200 individual medley with times of 2:12.34 and 2:31.67.
Kenny Cabeen took a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle for Austin Tuesday evening with a time of 23.79, and teammate Carter Holt, only an 8th grader was third with a time of 25.78. Riley Ferguson and Isaiah Cabeen were 1-2 for the Packers in 1 meter diving, with Ferguson tallying a final score of 157.75 and Cabeen totaling 122.70, and Joey Hilikin and Lucas Meyers were 1-2 for Austin in the 100 butterfly with times of 1:01.58 and 1:11.66, respectivley.
Austin’s Kenny Cabeen and Jackson Barry were first and second in the 100 freestyle, with Cabeen taking first with a time of 53.07, and Barry taking second with a time of 1:01.25, and Thomas Asmus was second in the 500 freestyle with a final time of 6:22.99. The Packers saw their top two 200 freestyle relay teams go 1-2, with the team of Joey Hilikin, Carter Holt, Kenny Cabeen and Winston Walkup taking first with a time of 1:38.14, and the team of Zach Evenson, Jackson Barry, Noah Holt and Thomas Asmus was second with a time of 1:51.93. Zach Evenson and Lucas Meyers were second and third for Austin in the 100 backstroke with times of 1:06.90 and 1:08.88, and Austin’s 400 freestyle relay team of Zach Evenson, Thomas Asmus, Kyle Mayer and Lucas Meyers was third with a final time of 4:05.13.
Austin is now off until Thursday, January 6th when they play host to Winona at Bud Higgins Pool at Ellis Middle School, with the action scheduled to start that night at 6:30 p.m.
