Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving team falls to Mankato West 91-84

The Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving team played host to the Mankato East Cougars in a makeup Big 9 Conference dual meet at Bud Higgins Pool Monday evening, and it was the Cougars coming out on top 91-84.

High finishers for Austin included the Packers’ 200 medley relay team of Winston Walkup, Jackson Barry, Kenny Cabeen and Noah Holt taking second place with a final time of 1:52.83, Zach Evenson was third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:07.53, Walkup took third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.39 and Cabeen was first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.37.

Cabeen later went on to claim third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.57, Winston Walkup was second for Austin in the 500 freestyle with a final time of 5:28.73 and the Packers’ 200 freestyle relay teams went 1-2 as the team of Joey Hillkin, Zach Evenson, Kyle Mayer and Lucas Meyers was first with a time of 1:44.57, and the team of Jackson Barry, Carter Holt, Hunter Peters and Doh Htoo were second with a final time of 1:55.97.  Evenson, Hillkin and Thomas Asmus went 1-2-3 for Austin in the 100 backstroke, with Evenson finishing with a time of 1:05.54, Hillkin with a time of 1:10.09 and Asmus with a time of 1:15.68.

Jackson Barry, Carter Holt and Hunter Peters were 1-2-3 for the Packers in the 100 breaststroke as Barry finished with a time of 1:10.94, Holt with a time of 1:17.17 and Peters with a time of 1:21.40.  Austin’s 400 freestyle relay teams went 1-2 as the team of Kenny Cabeen, Lucas Meyers, Matthew Grush and Winston Walkup took first with a time of 3:36.14, and the team of Kyle Mayer, Zach Evenson, Noah Holt and Hunter Peters was second with a time of 4:12.09.

Austin returns to action in a Big 9 dual meet in Rochester Thursday evening versus the John Marshall Rockets, with the action set to start at 6:30 p.m.
