Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving team competes at Big 9 Conference meet in Rochester

The Austin Packers boys’ swimming and diving team traveled to the Rochester Aquatic Center Saturday for day two of the Big 9 Conference meet, and it was the Packers finishing in 10th place with 91 team points.  Rochester Century was the runaway winner with 411 points, followed by Northfield and Mankato East in a tie for second with 291 points.  Then came Rochester Mayo in fourth with 261 points, Winona was fifth with 232 points, then came Mankato West in sixth with 178 total points, Rochester John Marshall was seventh with 166 points, Owatonna took eighth place with 126 points, Red Wing was ninth 101 points, followed by Austin and then Faribault in 11th place with 67 points, and Albert Lea finished 12th with 40 points.

Highlights for Austin included Kenny Cabeen taking seventh in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.01, and the Packers’ 200 meter freestyle relay team of Winston Walkup, Joey Hillkin, Matthew Grush and Cabeen took fifth with a time of 1:33.99.  Walkup was fifth for Austin in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.04, and the 200 medley relay team of Walkup, Jackson Barry, Joey Hillkin and Kenny Cabeen was eighth with a time of 1:46.00.  Winston Walkup also finished 10th for Austin in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:10.17.

Austin will return to action at the Section 1A boys’ swimming and diving meet starting on Wednesday, February 23rd, at a time and location to be determined.
