Austin Packers boys’ soccer falls to Rochester Mayo 3-1

It was a Big 9 Conference matchup at Art Hass Stadium Tuesday night between the Austin Packers and the Rochester Mayo Spartans, and it was the visitors coming away with a 3-1 victory.

The game was scoreless after one half when Timothy Persons and Patrick Haslam tallied for the Spartans to give them a 2-0 lead that lasted until the 67th minute when the Packers tallied to cut the Mayo lead to 2-1.  Unfortunately for Austin, Spartan keeper Nathan Wigle and the Mayo defense were able to hold the Packers off the scoreboard the rest of the way, and Jonathan Sekarski’s tally in the 78th minute added an insurance goal for Mayo.

Yonis Muse tallied two assists and Mario Magnotto added one for the Spartans in the win.  With the loss, Austin is now 4-3-1 in the Big 9 Conference and 4-4-3 overall on the season.  The Packers return to action Thursday evening in Faribault against the Falcons, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
