Austin Packers boys hockey team falls to Rochester John Marshall 5-1 Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers boys hockey team kicked off a two-game road trip in Rochester Tuesday night versus the John Marshall Rockets at the Rec Center, and it was junior forward Damon Miller scoring a pair of goals to help the Rockets past the Packers by a score of 5-1.

Senior forward Michael Greiner scored at 12:29 of the first period and sophomore forward Ole Fevold tallied what turned out to be the game-winning goal with only :27 seconds left in the period to give John Marshall a 2-0 lead at the end of one, and Adam Mullenbach’s goal at 4:01 of the second period, followed by Miller scoring the first of his two goals at 9:28 of the period made the score 4-0 Rockets at the end of two periods.  Miller tallied again at 2:28 of the third period to increase the JM lead to 5-0, and Austin’s lone goal of the game was scored by senior forward Issac Stromlund at 11:11, his fifth of the season to account for the 5-1 final.

John Marshall peppered Austin netminder Daran Plunkett with 58 shots in the contest, and he made 53 saves, while Rockets goaltender Thor Shelley played two periods and turned away nine of the 10 shots he faced to earn the win, while Cody Vlasaty kicked out all three shots he faced in one period of work.  The Packers were not called for a penalty in the game, while John Marshall was whistled for two penalties for four minutes, and Austin was 0 for 2 on the power play.

Austin is now 3-15-1 overall on the season and 1-11-1 in the Big 9 Conference, and the Packers are on the road for their next game Thursday in Faribault versus the Falcons, with face-off at 6:00 p.m. that evening.
