Austin Packers boys’ hockey falls to Red Wing Thursday evening 10-2

The Austin Packers boys’ hockey team was on the road at Red Wing Thursday evening for a Big 9 Conference matchup with the Wingers, and Evan Petersmeyer piled up five points with three goals and two assists, and Will Wooden added two goals as the Wingers broke things open with a five goal third period on their way to a 10-2 victory.

Cal Fox scored on the power play for Austin at 12:25 of the second period to cut Red Wing’s lead at that time to 5-1, with assists to Cooper Guttormson and Garrett Schaefer, and Dylan Regenscheid tallied the other goal for the Packers at 13:36 of the third period, with an assist to Jose Lopez.  It was a penalty-filled affair in Red Wing Thursday night, as Austin was whistled for five penalties for 13 minutes, and the Wingers accumulated seven penalites for 24 minutes.  Red Wing outshot Austin 59-33 in the game, with both Packer netminders seeing action.  Ethan Knox played the first 29:43 and made 20 saves in facing 25 shots, and Bray Klapperick played the last 21:17 and turned aside 29 of the 34 shots he faced.  Red Wing goaltender Dixon Ehlers made 31 saves in facing 33 shots for the win between the pipes.

With the loss, Austin falls to 0-11 in the Big 9 Conference and 0-12 overall.  The Packers are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Riverside Arena as they play host to Albert Lea, with face-off at 2:00 p.m.
