Austin Packers boys golf team seventh in tightly-packed field at the Section 1AAA tournament in Lake City Tuesday

The Austin Packers boys golf team traveled to The Jewel in Lake City Tuesday for Day 1 of the Section 1AAA tournament, and it was the Packers finishing with a team total of 311, putting them in seventh place in a tightly-packed field, 16 strokes back of first-place Albert Lea, who finished with a total of 295.  Several teams are right on the heels of the Tigers, as both Rochester Mayo and Century finished at 299, four strokes back, followed by Northfield at 300 after Day 1, Farmington is in fifth with a team total of 301, and Lakeville North sits in sixth place in the 12-team field at 304.

Individually for Austin, both sophomore Cale Tupy and freshman Isaac Anderson carded a 76, which puts them in a seven-way tie for 15th place overall, junior Izaac Erickson was right behind them with a 77, freshman Elijah Krueger carded an 82-, sophomore Carter Hovelsrud finished with a round of 94, and junior Owen O’Rourke registered a score of 98.

The final round of the tournament is being held today (Wednesday).
