Austin Packers boys basketball wins at Winona 55-48 Tuesday evening

The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team was looking to get back on the winning track in a Big 9 Conference tilt in Winona Tuesday evening versus a strong Winhawks squad, and guard Cham Okey led the Packers with 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and two of Austin’s 11 steals in the game as the Packers knocked off the Winhawks 55-48.

Besides Okey’s 19 points, senior forward Victor Idris supplied 17 points, team-highs in rebounds with five and steals with three, plus three assists, Buai Duop chipped in nine points and one of Austin’s two blocked shots in the game, Jack Lang and Ater Manyoun each scored three points and Jared Lillemon and Kaden Murley each tallied two points for the Packers, who won despite being outrebounded in the the game 29-13.  The Packers forced 10 Winona turnovers while committing eight of their own, and they moved to 4-3 in the Big 9 Conference and 5-6 overall on the season with the win, plus Austin is now 3-0 on the season versus teams in Section 1AAA.

The Packers will entertain Rochester Mayo for their next game at Packer Gym Friday night, with the varsity tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
