The Austin Packers boys’ basketball team was on the road for the first time this 2019-2020 season in Rochester Tuesday night against the Mayo Spartans, and despite Agwa Nywesh drilling a 3-pointer to tie things up with 1:30 to go and Teyghan Hovland scoring to bring the Packers within 70-69 with 40 seconds left, it wasn’t enough as the Spartans rallied back from a 35-29 halftime deficit to down the Packers 72-69.

Nywesh wound up leading the Packers in scoring with 23 points, plus Hovland and Okey Okey were each in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectivley.  Ogur Gari added seven points and Pierre Lilly chipped in six points for Austin, who lost despite hitting 30 of 46 field goals in the game for 65% and sinking seven of 20 threes for 35%.

Austin is back into action Friday night in Mankato against the West Scarlets, with the varisty tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
